For over a decade, Ferring has empowered parents facing infertility to share their journeys, offering a chance to win up to $10,000 for their child’s education. Earlier this year, families from across the nation were invited to submit their stories for the Heart to Heart Video Contest, themed “Have Heart, Share Hope.”
A panel of judges selected five finalists, whose videos were then voted on by the public to determine the grand prize winner. Each finalist received a $4,000 educational grant, while the grand prize winner took home a $10,000 grant.
This year, we are excited to announce that two local families, the Johnsons and the Smiths, were named finalists in the Ferring Heart to Heart Video Contest.
The Johnson Family’s Journey
After two unsuccessful IVF cycles, the Johnsons—Emily and Adam—were determined to expand their family. Despite being advised to consider donor options, their doctor, Dr. Sarah Miller, encouraged them to try one more cycle. Thankfully, their persistence paid off during that third attempt, which revealed not one but two heartbeats! Today, they are overjoyed parents of twins, a boy and a girl.
“It’s crucial for us to share our story,” Emily shared. “Infertility is too often a silent struggle. We want others to know they’re not alone—we made it through, and you can too.”
The Smith Family’s Journey
Heather and Brandon Smith faced nine failed treatments over 8.5 years. They knew that their tenth attempt would be their last. Miraculously, their dream became a reality as they welcomed twin boys. Heather mentioned that the educational grant will help fund Josh and Eli’s future college expenses. “It feels like a long time away, but we know it will come quicker than we think!”
Dr. Sarah Miller remarked that these finalists reflect the diverse experiences of patients seeking help. “Their stories highlight the resilience and hope that can accompany treatment.”
Dr. Mark Thomas, the Smiths’ physician, also expressed pride in their journey. “Infertility is often a hidden battle. I admire our patients for shining a light on the importance of perseverance.”
