Hey friends! Life has a funny way of not going as planned, doesn’t it? I just turned 45 and, to my surprise, I’m pregnant again! This will be my second child—something I never thought would happen after my journey with Dr. Thompson. I already have a four-year-old son that we conceived the old-fashioned way, thanks to Dr. Thompson’s help in removing a pesky polyp that was hanging around in my uterus.
After a whirlwind of IVF attempts—three to be exact, with a couple of incomplete cycles and hysteroscopies thrown in—I found myself contemplating egg donation. When Dr. Thompson brought it up after our second IVF didn’t work out, my husband was ready to dive into the process right away. Me? I wanted to give the third IVF a shot with my own eggs first. During this time, we sought counseling and I joined a supportive group for donor recipients. It was such a relief to talk with others who were on the same path.
Eventually, the idea of using a donor started to feel more comfortable. After our third IVF failed, we began searching for a donor. It’s a strange process, but I realized that attributes like height or intelligence didn’t matter as much as finding someone who shared a positive outlook on life. I found myself drawn to women with “nice eyes,” believing they reveal so much about a person’s character. We finally found a donor I really connect with!
Everyone’s journey is unique, and that’s the beauty of it. It’s all about finding what works for you and your partner and taking it one day at a time. Instead of worrying, I’m choosing positivity. I used to picture myself as a perfect mom, hair done and kids in tow, but life threw me some curveballs. I met my husband later than I expected, and despite everything, I still feel vibrant and healthy. We’re hopeful for our second child and are thankful for Dr. Thompson and the wonderful staff who have supported us through this journey.
