It’s funny how life can change your plans. My partner, Alex, and I never envisioned ourselves as parents. But last year, something shifted. One morning, I woke up feeling an overwhelming desire to become a mom—it was just like that. Thankfully, Alex felt the same way.
As a same-sex couple, the path to parenthood can be a bit tricky. We began by researching options and initially thought in vitro fertilization was our best bet. Then, I stumbled across a YouTube video about at-home insemination, and it caught my interest. I quickly dug deeper and eventually came across a fantastic resource that really helped guide us through the journey.
After watching numerous videos and reading heartwarming success stories, we decided to buy three kits to get started. I tracked my cycle for a few months after removing my IUD and felt ready to begin trying in June. Unfortunately, our first two attempts in June and July didn’t pan out, but we didn’t lose hope. I had a hunch that we just needed to tweak a few things.
August turned out to be a break for us due to a camping trip, but we came back rejuvenated in September. On the 10th, we had our known donor come over, and we did two inseminations within a 36-hour window. After several days of waiting, I tested at 11 days past ovulation—only to see a negative result. Yet, something felt different this time. I decided to hold out for three more days, and finally, I got my big fat positive! We felt so lucky to have found this method and to become pregnant on our third try.
Thank you for being part of our journey, At Home Insemination!
