My partner and I stumbled upon at-home insemination while on a road trip through the beautiful Rocky Mountains about a year ago. As we were planning our wedding and dreaming of starting a family, we were unsure if we had to go straight to a fertility clinic. Thankfully, we discovered this amazing option!

We had already agreed to use a trusted sperm donor, and we were over the moon when my brother volunteered to help us out. After our lovely summer wedding, we decided to order a few at-home insemination kits but still craved more information about our options. In Alberta, Canada, the wait for an initial fertility treatment consultation can be as long as a year! Luckily, we managed to get in sooner than expected. The doctor informed us that the only clinic in Canada that allows known donors to donate sperm is located in Toronto. This meant we would have to fly my brother out there for a week of procedures and then wait an additional six months while the donated sperm was quarantined! The total cost? About $10,000!

This reality check pushed us to give at-home insemination a shot. We ordered six kits, and to our amazement, we got our positive result just three months later. It was such a heartwarming experience—we loved being able to go through the process at home, without any medications, drugs, or other invasive procedures. It honestly felt unreal.

We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate that everything turned out so well. Thanks to at-home insemination, we’re excited to welcome our little one in September!
