Quick Rest After IUI Offers No Advantage

Hey there! So, there’s been some interesting research around intrauterine insemination (IUI) that you might want to know about. A study conducted in Amsterdam looked at 479 patients across 1,934 IUI cycles. The participants, who faced mild male subfertility or unexplained infertility, were divided into two groups. One group had to lie still for 15 minutes post-IUI, while the other was encouraged to get moving immediately. Surprisingly, the ongoing pregnancy rate was actually lower for those who rested (32.2%) compared to those who were more active (40.3%). While the difference wasn’t statistically significant, the researchers suggested that the idea of needing to rest after IUI might be outdated.

This finding was shared at last year’s European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) annual meeting. You can check out more about IUI in one of our other blog posts, which dives deeper into the topic. If you’re considering at-home options, you might also want to look at this handy in-home insemination kit that could help with your journey. In summary, it seems that taking a brief rest after IUI may not provide the benefits many people think it does. Keeping active right after the procedure might be the way to go!
