THIS TEST IS FOR AT-HOME SELF-TESTING
ABOUT THE OVUM® PREGNANCY TEST
This test identifies a hormone called human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), which appears in your body in varying amounts during the early stages of pregnancy. Once an embryo attaches to the uterine wall, it starts producing hCG, which can be detected in urine. If the test picks up hCG, it will show a positive result.
If you’re eager to find out early, feel free to test up to 5 days before your expected period. However, for the most reliable results (over 99%), it’s best to test as close as possible to your expected period. Check out the section on ‘What Day Should I Test?’ for more details.
BEFORE YOU TEST
To get the most accurate results, read these instructions thoroughly before starting the test. We recommend testing first thing in the morning when your urine is most concentrated. This is especially important if you’re testing early. If you prefer to test later in the day, make sure you haven’t consumed too much liquid in the hours leading up to the test.
TAKING THE TEST
- Unwrap one OVUM® test and remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip.
- Sit on the toilet and hold the test using the thumb grip to avoid any mess. Point the absorbent tip downward. The initial part of your urine flow will give you a stronger reading.
- You can either urinate directly onto the absorbent tip for about 5 seconds or dip it into a clean, dry container of urine for at least 5 seconds. Avoid getting urine on the result window!
- Once done, replace the cap and lay the test on a flat surface, result window facing up. Check the result after 3-5 minutes.
- After testing, place the test and its foil sleeve in the prepaid envelope provided, and send it off to our recycling partner when you’re done with all four tests.
READING YOUR RESULTS
The test window may show two lines:
- Control Line: Confirms the test is working.
- Test Line: Indicates a positive result.
Positive: If you see two lines, even if one is faint, you’re looking at a positive result.
Negative: If only the control line appears, the test is negative. You may not be pregnant, or it could be too early to test.
Invalid: If no line shows up in the control area, the test is invalid. This could mean the absorbent tip wasn’t saturated enough, or the test is damaged or expired. In this case, try testing again by dipping the tip into a container of urine.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PREGNANCY TEST
How accurate is the test?
The OVUM® Early Detection Pregnancy Test is highly sensitive, detecting hCG with over 99% accuracy. It can predict pregnancy three days before your expected period. Accuracy decreases slightly to 97% at four days and 77% at five days before your expected period.
When should I check my results?
Check your results between 3 and 5 minutes after testing. Results read after 5 minutes may not be reliable, so if you’re unsure, just retest.
What if one line is darker?
As long as there are two lines, that’s a positive result! If the test line is faint, it might be due to diluted urine or it being too early to test. Try again in a few days, preferably in the morning when your urine is most concentrated.
WHAT CAN AFFECT MY RESULTS?
- Waiting too long to read the results can lead to inaccuracies.
- If you recently stopped hormonal contraception or are using fertility medications like clomiphene citrate, your cycles may be irregular, leading to premature testing.
- Experiencing a recent miscarriage or early pregnancy loss can also affect your results.
