Hello!
We’re thrilled to share our journey toward starting a family. My husband, Jake, 32, and I, Emily, 33, have been married for eight years. We began our active trying-to-conceive (TTC) efforts in March 2016. After a frustrating first year with no success, we consulted with a reproductive endocrinologist at Seattle Reproductive Medicine. In June 2017, routine testing revealed no male factors affecting our fertility. However, a subsequent ultrasound showed a significant fibroid in my uterine cavity. To enhance our chances of conceiving, I opted for an abdominal myomectomy to remove the fibroid.
By August, I underwent an HSG test only to discover that my left fallopian tube was blocked. Thankfully, my ovaries were functioning well, and the right fallopian tube remained unobstructed, allowing for the possibility of natural conception. After receiving the green light to resume TTC in September, I began a medicated cycle with Femara, supplemented by ovulation predictor kits.
Despite our efforts over the next six months, we were still unsuccessful. We then introduced Ovidrel into our treatment plan, but after another year of trying, I found myself at a crossroads, weighing options that included IUI and IVF. The emotional toll was overwhelming for both of us, prompting a much-needed break from our TTC journey.
In January 2020, while browsing social media, I stumbled upon MakeAmom, a company that specializes in at-home insemination. Given the hefty costs associated with IUI, we decided to give their approach a try. Our first attempt with MakeAmom didn’t result in a pregnancy, but we remained hopeful! We took a break in February before giving it another shot in March. By maintaining our faith and staying positive, I am overjoyed to announce that I’m pregnant! Our little girl, Baby “M,” is expected to arrive in December 2020!
To anyone reading this, I want to emphasize: DON’T GIVE UP! You’ve got this!
How long were you trying before MakeAmom? 2.5 years
Did you try any medical interventions? Clomid and HSG
