When my partner, Jamie, and I decided to start our family back in December 2019, we felt a mix of excitement and nerves. We found a sperm donor and spent a hefty $870 to have the frozen sperm delivered to us. In January, we discovered an app with potential donors and met one we liked, which gave us renewed hope. However, just a month later, Jamie was diagnosed with cancer and required emergency surgery.
Despite the setback, we tried again in March with the same donor, but the mood was heavy as we processed the news of Stage 4 stomach cancer. After some soul searching and waiting through her treatment, we received wonderful news in May: Jamie’s cancer was almost gone! With renewed spirits, we decided to find a new donor in June who made us feel more comfortable. By July, we tried again, and this time, we got the positive result we had been dreaming of.
My tip for others on a similar journey? Make sure to incorporate pleasure—enjoying intimacy can help. And remember, persistence is key; don’t lose hope, it will happen!
