Hey there! If you’re exploring the journey of fertility treatments, you might be curious about the success rates. Well, a recent study involving nearly 20,000 women in Denmark revealed that around 70% of them were able to conceive and give birth within five years of starting their fertility journey. Among those who succeeded, 57% did so through treatment, while 14% conceived naturally.

The researchers monitored live birth rates at 2, 3, and 5 years after women began either intrauterine insemination (IUI) or assisted reproductive technology (ART). The findings showed live birth rates of 57% at 2 years, 65% at 3 years, and 71% at 5 years.

When looking specifically at ART as the initial treatment, the birth rates were 46.1% after 2 years, 51.1% after 3 years, and 52.9% after 5 years. In contrast, if IUI was the starting point, only 34.2% delivered within 2 years, with no significant improvement noted after 3 and 5 years. However, transitioning to ART did lead to an increase in birth rates to 15.1% after 2 years, 21.1% after 3 years, and 23.7% after 5 years.

Age plays a significant role as well. Among women under 35, the five-year birth rate soared to 80%, while for those aged 40 and above, it dropped to just 26.2%. These insights, presented at a recent European conference, can help couples better understand what to expect on their path to parenthood.
