Dr. Emily Carter is a fresh face at our Fredericksburg, VA facility, bringing her passion for reproductive health to our community. The new location is set to provide a comprehensive range of fertility services, from diagnostic assessments and simpler treatments like intrauterine insemination (IUI) to advanced procedures such as donor egg treatments, oncofertility, and LGBTQ family building, along with options for egg freezing.
Dr. Carter earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry from Lakeview University before obtaining her medical degree from the University of Virginia. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Louis University and further honed her skills during her fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
After returning to the Washington area in 1990, Dr. Carter practiced in various private settings until 2016 when she joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, practicing in Richmond for two years. Since July 2018, she has been a vital part of our team, holding certifications in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

What inspired you to become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?
I fell in love with the field during my residency when I had a chance to explore reproductive endocrinology. The technology and the potential for change in this area captivated me, and I knew I wanted to help couples start families.

I have always been inspired by Malala Yousafzai for her courage and commitment to education.
What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy playing puzzle games like Candy Crush. They challenge my mind, and I love the satisfaction of completing a level. I’m also actively involved in community service through my church, focusing on helping those in need.
What makes you proud to be part of this practice?
I’ve been with different practices throughout my career, but here, the organization and focus on patient care really stand out. Despite being part of a large team, there’s a genuine sense of family among the staff.
What’s on your bucket list?
I’d love to take a cruise to Alaska someday!
Can you share an inspiring moment with a patient?
Every day, I’m inspired by my patients. Many face significant challenges even before our first appointment, and their bravery motivates me to provide the best care possible.
How do you approach helping patients who are having difficulties?
I prioritize listening to their stories and understanding how their struggles affect their lives. I want them to know they are valued as individuals, not just patients.
How would you describe yourself?
I’m a quiet and introspective person with a positive outlook. I pay attention to the little things and have deep feelings that I sometimes keep to myself. I genuinely care about the well-being of others.
