We’re thrilled to introduce Dr. Emily Carter, who has recently joined our medical team in Pennsylvania. Alongside her colleagues, Drs. Mark Thompson, Lisa Reynolds, and John Lee, she will be seeing patients in the Philadelphia and Chesterbrook locations.

Dr. Carter graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Massachusetts. Following this, she pursued a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, along with a master’s degree in clinical research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a strong advocate for early fertility diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Carter supports egg freezing as a way for women to preserve their fertility for future family planning. She has experience as a clinical instructor in gynecology at the University of North Carolina and has held leadership positions in various professional organizations, such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

A little more about Dr. Carter:

Q: What motivated you to become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?
A: I believe that everyone deserves the chance to become a parent and have the family they dream of. My goal in attending medical school was to help individuals overcome any medical hurdles that stand in the way of achieving that dream. Each day, I look forward to helping at least one person realize their parenting aspirations.

Q: Who inspires you?
A: I’m inspired by children and the little moments in life. Whether it’s my toddler saying they want to be a “friend to everyone” or my daughter sharing her favorite blanket with her brother, these acts of kindness drive me to work harder and spread love wherever I can.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: I love spending time outdoors with my kids, whether we’re hunting for tadpoles or chasing water bugs. I also enjoy visiting breweries with my husband and exploring new restaurants. Being Canadian, I thrive in the cold and find energy in winter storms. Plus, nothing beats a cup of tea and puddle jumping in warm rain!

Q: What about your practice makes you proud?
A: My passion for caring for people is what led me to this field. Here, patient-centric care is at the forefront of every decision. We always ask ourselves, “What would I want if I were in this patient’s shoes?” That commitment to care is what excites me about being part of this team.

Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: I dream of going on an African safari, visiting family in Alberta, attending a yoga retreat in Greece, and experiencing a massive snowstorm on Christmas Day.

Q: How do you support patients who are facing challenges?
A: I want my patients to know they are heard and understood. My approach begins with having an open discussion with couples to craft a personalized plan. Having a clear direction helps ease anxiety, whether they choose to try again, explore different treatments, or take a step back to reevaluate their journey. I’m here to guide them every step of the way.

Q: How would you describe your personality?
A: I’m curious, enthusiastic, and optimistic. I love connecting with people, finding common interests, and sharing a laugh.
