We’re thrilled to introduce Dr. Anika Patel, a new member of our dedicated physician team. Joining us this October, Dr. Patel will be collaborating with her colleagues in the Fair Oaks office and performing procedures at our Rockville location. We had a chance to chat with her about her journey to becoming a reproductive endocrinologist, her motivations, and her love for music.
What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?
From a young age, I was fascinated by the medical field. My parents share stories of me running around with a toy doctor’s kit when I was just a little kid. Although I don’t remember that specific moment, I do recall my admiration for my childhood doctor, who genuinely cared for our family. As I grew older, I found joy in volunteering and helping those in need, which solidified my desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
What led you to specialize in reproductive endocrinology?
I stumbled upon reproductive endocrinology almost by accident. A friend suggested I try it during my medical school electives. The moment I immersed myself in the field, I felt a connection unlike any other. It was remarkable to witness the collaboration between doctors and patients, all working towards a shared dream of starting a family. I realized then that this was my true calling, and I can’t see myself doing anything else.
What attracted you to our practice?
The team dynamic here is fantastic! Every member plays a vital role and is deeply committed to our patients. It’s easy to assume that a larger organization might feel distant, but I’ve found the opposite to be true. Even as a newcomer, I already feel like part of a family, and I hope our patients experience that warmth too.
Who inspires you?
My parents have always been my greatest motivators. They’ve supported me through every step of my life, from academic challenges to personal endeavors. Their kindness and willingness to help others remind me every day of the profound impact that love and support can have.
What are some adventures on your bucket list?
I dream of traveling more, especially to places like Australia, Thailand, and Peru. Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is definitely on my agenda!
What are your hobbies?
Photography is a big passion of mine. I always have my camera ready to capture special moments. I also dabble in drawing and have recently taken up painting, even if I’m still perfecting that skill! I enjoy staying active, running, biking, and exploring local trails. Plus, I love discovering new restaurants—there’s so much to explore in the DC area.
What’s your go-to music?
Surprisingly, I don’t have any songs downloaded on my phone. However, I enjoy listening to Pandora, especially the Black Eyed Peas station, which keeps me energized during my workouts.
