Navigating the IVF journey can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to understanding the necessary testing. At PFCLA, we ensure that you, your partner, egg donor, or surrogate are well-prepared with the required tests. It’s essential to discuss your specific situation with our care team, as testing protocols can differ based on individual cases and your doctor’s recommendations.
Pre-Treatment Testing
Before beginning your IVF cycle, several tests may be necessary. Most of these can be conducted at one of our clinics, designed to simplify your experience.
- Blood Tests: Your physician might order blood tests to evaluate your ovarian reserve or screen for specific conditions. We strive to minimize your travel; if you or your donor is abroad, we can coordinate with our international partner clinics to collect blood samples in compliance with FDA regulations.
- Ultrasound: An ultrasound may be performed to assess the antral follicle count, ovarian reserve, and the uterus’s readiness for pregnancy.
- Mock Embryo Transfer: Sometimes, a mock embryo transfer is conducted to predict success rates for you or your surrogate.
As you embark on this process, it’s crucial to complete any state and federal pretreatment testing mandated by law and our clinic’s medical guidelines.
Additional Testing
Depending on the services you engage with, your doctor may require additional testing. If you’re in the U.S. but can’t visit a PFCLA clinic, local labs can conduct these tests. However, it’s important to note that costs incurred from outside testing won’t be covered by PFCLA. If you’re overseas, we can arrange for your blood to be sent to our Los Angeles clinic for processing, minimizing travel.
- HIV-1 & 2 Testing: Checks for the presence of HIV.
- HTLV-1 & 2 Testing: Similar to HIV testing, crucial for donor eligibility.
- Hepatitis B & C Testing: Evaluates liver infection risks.
- Syphilis Testing: Required for detection and treatment before IVF.
- Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Testing: STDs that must be treated prior to IVF.
Your doctor may also request hormone level tests like FSH, Estradiol, TSH, and Prolactin, along with vaccinations checks for Rubella and Varicella, and a complete blood count (CBC).
