After a year of trying to conceive, my partner Jake and I were feeling disheartened. We started our journey in July 2022, and at that time, I was 37. With everyone reminding me that time was running out, I meticulously tracked my cycles and took ovulation tests. Unfortunately, in December 2022, I experienced a chemical pregnancy, which was a tough blow.
After that, we decided to consult a fertility specialist. It took a while to get an appointment, and in July 2023, we learned that everything looked normal for my age, but we still weren’t pregnant. Jake finally got tested in February 2024, and thankfully, his results were also normal. By that point, we were considering medical options for help, but I was apprehensive about IVF due to the emotional and financial challenges. Instead, we opted for IUI, especially since it was covered by our insurance.
In the meantime, we discovered an at-home insemination kit, which we thought might be worth a shot. Our first attempt with this kit was in March, but I knew it might take a couple of tries, so we gave it another go in April. Conveniently, our appointment with the fertility specialist was at the end of April 2024. Just three days after that appointment, I took a test and couldn’t believe my eyes—I was pregnant! As I write this, I’m currently 20 weeks and 5 days along.
I truly believe we wouldn’t be here without that at-home insemination kit. It provided us with an extra opportunity during a challenging time, and for that, I’m immensely grateful.
