We tied the knot on January 1, 2015. I was 39, and my husband, Alex, was 51. While I had no children of my own, Alex had two sons from his previous marriage. We began our journey to conceive in November 2015, and by August 2016, we were referred to a fertility specialist for further assistance.
After enduring four unsuccessful intrauterine insemination (IUI) attempts in September, October, November, and December, we faced another disappointment with a negative result in mid-January. The stress of frequent trips to the clinic—almost an hour and a half away—became overwhelming. So, we decided to pause and allow things to unfold naturally.
In late March, I began researching at-home insemination options and discovered MakeAmom. After watching their instructional videos, I shared them with Alex. We discussed it thoroughly and decided to give this approach a try.
I ordered two home insemination kits in April, but I had already ovulated by the time they arrived. In May, I diligently tracked my ovulation, and on the day it peaked—May 7—we used the MakeAmom kit just once. To our delight, we received a positive pregnancy test on May 23!
Now, at 41 years old, I’m anticipating the arrival of our first baby on January 29, 2018! We are incredibly grateful to MakeAmom for helping us realize our dream of starting a family.
