Finding Friendship Through the Journey of Parenthood

When a single mom by choice (SMBC) had to switch donors, she unexpectedly found a lifelong friend!

It all began when my close friend offered to be the donor for my future child. However, when it was time to move forward with insemination, my friend decided to back out, leaving me feeling lost and unsure of where to turn next. After some research and joining a few Facebook groups, as well as the “Just A Baby” app, I finally found a potential donor.

We decided to meet up at a restaurant for our first encounter since I was completely new to this process. To my surprise, we really clicked! After dinner, we headed to a hotel where he was familiar with the procedure and guided me through using the insemination kit. Unfortunately, our first attempt didn’t result in a pregnancy, but we agreed to try again at least two more times before I’d consider looking for a different donor.

On the second attempt, things went perfectly, and fast forward to today, I’m now 19 weeks pregnant! While my donor wants to remain anonymous, we’ve developed a friendship that I truly cherish. It’s not romantic since I’m a lesbian, but it’s wonderful to have such a supportive friend in my life. I’m eagerly awaiting baby ‘T’ who is due on October 29, 2023!
