Expecting Dad Chronicles His Journey with Home Insemination

So, here’s a little story about my experience trying to conceive using an at-home kit. The first month, we gave it a shot without even glancing at the instructions—thinking, “How hard could it possibly be?” Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. But the following month, we decided to actually read the directions and followed them correctly. Success!

I must admit, I felt a bit of performance anxiety when it came to making a baby. Luckily, the whole process was simplified with the kit, allowing me to focus on just getting the sample right. It’s funny because I had practiced this sort of thing in my teenage years.

To add a twist to our story, my wife’s grandma was visiting when she began to show her first signs of ovulation. I quickly excused myself, took care of the sample, and then called my wife in for the actual transfer. She could have managed it solo, but I wanted to be part of the moment. After that, we both left the room for a brief minute—nobody suspected a thing!

We were originally set to go for IUI the next month, so using the kit saved us a significant amount of money. Fast forward, and we’re expecting our baby boy on November 17. Huge thanks to the home insemination kit!

How many cycles did we use the kit? Just two! And we only tried for less than six months before we found success. Our biggest hurdles? Performance anxiety and being over 35.
