We’re thrilled to introduce Dr. Emily Carter, the latest addition to our dedicated team! With a remarkable two decades of experience serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Carter brings a wealth of expertise.

Her journey began at the University of Notre Dame, where she was commissioned into the Army through ROTC. She later earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by a residency in Gynecologic Surgery and Obstetrics at Madigan Army Medical Center. Dr. Carter further honed her skills with a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

Reflecting on her career, Dr. Carter shares, “This profession perfectly combines staying updated with the latest medical advancements while allowing me to work hands-on and build lasting relationships with my patients. I feel privileged to share in their joyful moments and support them through challenging times. It’s truly the most rewarding service I could offer.”

Dr. Carter is particularly passionate about understanding the complexities of recurrent pregnancy loss. She acknowledges, “Experiencing miscarriages can be incredibly heartbreaking. The emotional toll on patients facing repeated losses is immense. There’s still so much to learn about this area. Researchers globally are examining the uterine microenvironment and critical biochemical processes involved in implantation and the later stages of pregnancy. I’m hopeful these studies will lead to new treatments with better outcomes.”

Her clinical specialties encompass diagnostics, artificial insemination/intrauterine insemination (IUI), ovulation induction, fertility preservation (egg freezing), in vitro fertilization (IVF), frozen embryo transfer (FET), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and fertility genetic testing. While at Brooke Army Medical Center, she championed equitable fertility care for single soldiers and same-sex couples.

Outside of work, Dr. Carter enjoys family life with her husband, another Notre Dame alum, and their three children. She looks forward to providing individualized, compassionate reproductive care to those looking to expand their families.
