This spring, our Egg Bank hit a fantastic milestone with the birth of our 100th baby through our donor egg program! This achievement reflects a growing trend across the country, where the use of frozen donor eggs is on the rise. Reports from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology show a 34% increase in embryo transfers using frozen donor eggs from 2013 to 2015.
Our journey began back in 2008, with the birth of our first baby from frozen donor eggs. We spent years perfecting our lab techniques, particularly in egg-freezing technology, before launching our Egg Bank in August 2012. We aimed to provide better access and options for those wanting to start or grow their families using donor eggs.
As our Program Coordinator, Jamie Thompson, shares, “We wanted to make donor eggs more accessible, as there weren’t enough donors, and the costs were often prohibitive. It took time to build our bank, but I’m thrilled with what we’ve accomplished.” Initially, we had just eight donor profiles, but now we offer nearly 50 profiles of frozen eggs ready for immediate use. Each donor undergoes comprehensive screening, including medical, psychological, and genetic assessments, ensuring the highest standards for our clients.
Notably, our frozen donor egg cycles offer several advantages over traditional fresh donor cycles, such as lower costs and quicker cycle starts. Patients typically complete their treatment within two months at about half the cost of a fresh cycle. Unlike fresh cycles, which require coordinating with a donor, frozen cycles provide flexibility and convenience.
In collaboration with our center, we offer a remarkable guarantee for prospective parents, ensuring they receive two embryos frozen at the blastocyst stage—ready to implant! This guarantee, along with the expertise of our staff, has resulted in a 53% clinical pregnancy rate.
