The Uncommon Matchmaker

A close friend introduced me to my fiancé and insisted that I “pay it forward” someday. While I haven’t yet played matchmaker in the dating realm, I realize I do it every day at work. It’s truly my calling.

As a Practice Liaison, my responsibilities range from managing budgets and forecasts to creating PowerPoints. Yet, when I reflect on my role, it becomes clear: I’m essentially a matchmaker. Alongside my fellow liaisons, I connect our medical professionals with the referring community—ob/gyns, urologists, midwives, and many more. We’re not just dropping off donuts and promotional goodies; we dive into the details, navigating paperwork to truly understand the heartbeat of each office. Our goal is to ensure that your healthcare providers know exactly who to turn to for your fertility care.

Just like in dating, we sometimes face rejection and disappointment. Our job revolves around establishing relationships with those key people who make referrals. We know that patients like you are out there searching for solutions, much like someone looking for their soulmate. And we feel a sense of joy when you reach out to us, signaling you’ve found the right support.

We spend a lot of time traveling from one office to another, keeping referring physicians up-to-date with the latest information about our services. It feels like we’re on an adventure! We respect your time, and we aim to be as efficient as possible, ensuring you have the best access to care without interrupting your routine visits to your own doctors.

There’s a real sense of accomplishment when we leave a physician’s office with their contact information, ready to send them our newsletters and updates. It’s even more rewarding when we hear from a nurse manager about two patients who recently achieved success in their fertility journeys. And the best moment? When a doctor reaches out to me for advice on how to assist a patient in need.

We’re not your typical representatives. We nurture relationships within the medical community, and while this may seem straightforward, it’s a process that requires time and dedication. Consider how long it takes to build a strong relationship in your life—it doesn’t happen overnight! Some of our contacts appreciate our efforts, while others might see us as just another vendor. But what really matters is ensuring you receive the care you deserve.

Your healthcare providers genuinely care about your well-being. They ask about your progress and collaborate with our specialists, all working together to help you reach your dreams of parenthood.

So, when you celebrate a successful eight-week pregnancy with that first ultrasound picture, know that there’s a dedicated team of matchmakers rooting for you, even if we haven’t met!
