From time to time, we have some interesting visitors at our center who are eager to delve into the world of infertility. Recently, we welcomed a fascinating guest—a doctoral student in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) named Mia Wong. Mia, a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist based in San Francisco, is currently studying at one of the few accredited colleges in the U.S. that offers a doctorate in TCM. She also teaches fellow students about the intricacies of this ancient practice.
Mia’s practice focuses on women’s health and chronic pain management, and now she’s enthusiastic about enhancing her knowledge of Western medical approaches to infertility. To achieve this, she’s dedicating at least 12 hours each month here, collaborating closely with Dr. Smith. During her time with us, Mia is observing everything from initial consultations to ultrasound monitoring, inseminations, and all the IVF procedures conducted at our center. She’s also exploring the IVF lab, getting hands-on experience with the behind-the-scenes activities.
But the exchange of knowledge isn’t one-sided! Mia is sharing valuable literature on TCM practices aimed at improving fertility. She’s even created a survey to help us understand how many of our patients are integrating TCM into their fertility treatments. Additionally, she’s demonstrating her techniques to our staff, enriching our understanding of holistic approaches to fertility.
If you happen to see Mia around the office in the coming months, be sure to say hello!
