Our Story

How one mom's personal fertility journey became a mission to help thousands of women find their path to motherhood.

Meet Jessica

My name is Jessica Morales, and I'm a single mom of four. If you'd told me ten years ago that I'd be running a website dedicated to reviewing at-home insemination kits, I probably would have laughed. But life has a way of taking you exactly where you need to be.

My fertility journey started with heartbreak. After my second child, I went through a difficult divorce and spent a few years just trying to keep my head above water — working odd jobs, stretching every dollar, and doing my best to be both parents to my kids. When I remarried briefly and we started trying for another baby, nothing happened. Month after month, negative tests, tears in the bathroom after the kids went to sleep, and a growing feeling that maybe my window had closed.

The fertility clinic quoted us over $15,000 for a single round of IVF. We didn't have it. We couldn't even come close. I remember sitting in that clinic parking lot, staring at the estimate on my phone, feeling like motherhood — something so natural, so fundamental — had been priced out of my reach.

“No woman should have to choose between paying rent and pursuing her dream of becoming a mother. There are options, and every woman deserves to know about them.”
— Jessica Morales, Founder

That's when I discovered intracervical insemination. A friend mentioned it casually — she'd read about it on a forum. I went down the rabbit hole that night after the kids were in bed, reading everything I could find. Medical studies, forum posts, product listings. The more I read, the more I realized this was a real, legitimate option that almost nobody was talking about.

The problem was information. There were no trustworthy reviews. No side-by-side comparisons. No one explaining which kits were well-made and which were overpriced junk. I ordered three different kits with money I didn't really have to spare, tested them, compared them, and ultimately chose one. My youngest, Sofia, was born nine months later.

I cried in the delivery room — not just because of the pain, but because I almost didn't get to have that moment. I almost let a $15,000 price tag convince me it wasn't possible.

From Kitchen Table to HomeConception

After Sofia was born, I couldn't stop thinking about all the other women out there who were sitting in fertility clinic parking lots, staring at quotes they couldn't afford. Women who didn't know there was another option. Women who deserved honest information.

I started HomeConception Reviews in 2022, literally from my kitchen table, typing with one hand while holding a sleeping baby in the other. I wrote my first review during naptime. I researched kits after bedtime. I reached out to fertility specialists on my lunch break from my remote customer service job.

Those early days were messy and exhausting. I'd be up at 5 AM to write before the kids woke up, then again at 10 PM after they fell asleep. My oldest, Marcus, who was twelve at the time, once asked why I was always on my laptop. I told him I was trying to help other moms. He said, "That's cool, Mom." That one sentence kept me going through a lot of late nights.

Today, HomeConception is the resource I wished I'd had during my own journey. We've helped thousands of women understand their options, compare products, and make decisions they feel confident about. Every email I get from a reader telling me she's pregnant — that she found us at exactly the right time — reminds me why I started this in the first place.

I'm still a stay-at-home mom. I still work from my kitchen table (though I upgraded to a desk in the corner of the living room last year). The kids still interrupt my writing. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our Mission

Making fertility information accessible to every woman, regardless of her budget.

The fertility industry can feel like a closed door if you don't have tens of thousands of dollars. IVF averages $15,000–$20,000 per cycle. IUI at a clinic runs $1,000–$4,000. For many women — single moms, LGBTQ+ couples, women without insurance coverage — these costs are simply out of reach.

At-home insemination is a safe, effective, and affordable alternative that more women should know about. Our mission is simple: give every woman the honest, thoroughly researched information she needs to make the best decision for her body, her family, and her budget.

We don't believe any single product is right for everyone. We believe in presenting the facts — the good and the bad — and trusting you to decide what's best for your situation. That's why every review on this site is based on hands-on testing, not press releases or manufacturer claims.

Our Testing Methodology

How we evaluate and score every at-home insemination kit.

We Buy Every Kit Ourselves

We never accept free products from manufacturers. Every kit reviewed on HomeConception is purchased with our own money, at full retail price, through the same channels you'd use. This ensures our experience mirrors yours from the very first click.

Hands-On Evaluation

Each kit goes through a comprehensive physical evaluation. We assess packaging quality, component materials, instruction clarity, device design and ergonomics, and overall user experience. We document everything with photos and detailed notes.

Expert Consultation

We work with three independent fertility specialists who review our assessments and provide clinical perspective on device design, safety considerations, and effectiveness factors. Their input is critical to ensuring our reviews go beyond surface-level impressions.

Our Scoring System

Every kit is scored on a 10-point scale across five weighted categories:

30%
Effectiveness & Design
Device engineering, sample delivery mechanism, retention design
25%
Ease of Use
Instructions, learning curve, comfort, accessibility for first-time users
20%
Component Quality
Materials, medical-grade standards, sterile packaging, durability
15%
Value for Money
Price per attempt, included accessories, shipping costs, bundle options
10%
Customer Feedback
Verified reviews, success stories, customer support responsiveness

Final scores are calculated using these weights, then reviewed by our team for consistency. We update scores when manufacturers change their products or when significant new customer data becomes available.

Our Values

The principles that guide everything we do.

Transparency

We disclose our affiliate relationships, explain our scoring methodology in detail, and never hide negative findings. You deserve to see the full picture, not a curated highlight reel.

Independence

We buy every product with our own money and never accept free samples or sponsored placements. Our rankings are based on testing, not advertising dollars.

Accessibility

We write for real people, not medical journals. Our guides are clear, jargon-free, and designed to help women at every stage of their journey — whether this is their first search or their tenth.

Community

Behind every page view is a woman hoping to become a mother. We never forget that. Your emails, your stories, and your feedback shape everything we do.

We read every email and do our best to respond within 48 hours.
