Starting a family together was always a dream for us, but we were unprepared for the hurdles that awaited us! When we began this journey in early 2020, we were filled with a mix of nervous excitement. Our initial plan was to use a known donor, but when they backed out, we opted for frozen samples instead. We immersed ourselves in books, conducted thorough research, tracked cycles, and selected a donor from a frozen sperm bank. With the onset of Covid, getting any medical assistance became nearly impossible, so we decided to try home insemination.
Unfortunately, the tiny syringes provided were challenging to handle and didn’t even capture all the sperm. After seven unsuccessful attempts with frozen sperm and a heart-wrenching moment at a wedding after a failed round with Clomid, we knew we needed a change. We reached out to friends, and thankfully, our college buddies stepped up to help us expand our family. Having shared so many special occasions together, it felt right to have their support.
I also joined a Facebook group for lesbians trying to conceive, where I found an incredible community that offered useful tips, including how to effectively use at-home insemination kits. We decided to try using a flex disc along with the insemination kit, attempting it twice each cycle. After two cycles with fresh sperm, we finally got the news we’d been waiting for! On St. Patrick’s Day 2021, we received our big fat positive test! We were overjoyed and can’t wait to welcome our sweet little boy, who is due on November 26, 2021. Our family and friends have been incredibly supportive, and this little one is already surrounded by so much love. We are immensely grateful for all the assistance we’ve received throughout this journey, especially from our friends and the resources shared within the community.

In summary, our journey to parenthood was filled with ups and downs, but the support from friends and the right resources made all the difference. We can’t wait to start this new chapter as a family!
