Starting a family is a dream many hold dear, but the path can be fraught with challenges. In early 2020, we embarked on our journey to conceive, filled with a mix of excitement and anxiety. Unfortunately, our initial choice of a known donor fell through, prompting us to explore frozen samples instead. We immersed ourselves in research, tracked cycles, and selected a donor from a frozen sperm bank. However, the Covid pandemic complicated matters, making medical assistance difficult to access.
Determined, we decided to try insemination at home. The tiny syringes provided were cumbersome and often ineffective, leading to seven unsuccessful attempts using frozen sperm. Frustrated and disheartened, especially after an unsuccessful round of Clomid, we knew we needed a change.
At that point, we reached out to our circle for a known donor, and we were fortunate that our college friends stepped in to help us grow our family. Having shared many milestones together, their willingness to assist was a source of great joy. I also joined a Facebook group for LGBTQ+ individuals trying to conceive, which proved invaluable. After two cycles with fresh sperm, the results were finally positive! On St. Patrick’s Day 2021, we received the news we’d long hoped for: we were expecting a baby! Our little boy is set to arrive on November 26, 2021, and the excitement from our family and friends has been overwhelming.
