My partner Emily and I have been together for nearly eight years, and our journey has been nothing short of magical. We experienced a whirlwind romance, leading to a commitment ceremony on the steps of the Texas state capitol just 11 months after we met. Since then, we’ve celebrated our love in two additional ceremonies as marriage laws evolved, first in Boulder, Colorado, and then back in Texas after the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage.

Over the years, we focused on personal growth and strengthening our relationship while also striving to buy our first home. In 2016, we achieved that dream with a charming fixer-upper just outside the city.
