From Uzbekistan to America: A Personal Journey

Hey friends! I want to share a little about my life journey that brought me from Uzbekistan to America with my parents and two daughters, Mia and Lena, back in January 1996. Leaving behind my home, friends, and career was tough, but I knew it was all for my kids’ future. Thankfully, we received financial support from U.S. government organizations, which made the transition easier. Plus, we arrived in San Francisco—what a stunning city! We were smitten from the get-go, but we also knew we had to work hard to earn our place in this beautiful country.

In Uzbekistan, I was a criminal defense attorney, but I couldn’t juggle law school here while raising my two girls. So, I pivoted and studied medical billing, landing my first job at a billing company. After that, I moved to a dental office to sharpen my skills further. Eventually, I joined a fertility clinic, and I have to say, it’s been such a rewarding experience! Even though I’m just a medical biller, I take immense pride in working for a company that helps families grow. I often talk about my job because I believe in the work we do.

On the personal side, Mia is now a business analyst and a proud mom to a delightful four-year-old, whom I adore. Lena just wrapped up her freshman year at university and has her sights set on employment law. After 11 years in America, I have zero regrets. This move has opened doors for my daughters both personally and academically, and it’s helped me grow stronger too. I can celebrate Jewish holidays more openly, something I couldn’t do in Uzbekistan. As I continue my journey at the clinic, I cherish the skills I’ve gained and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.

In summary, my journey from Uzbekistan to America has been transformative. It’s filled with challenges, growth, and a deep appreciation for the opportunities my family has received. I look forward to many more years in this vibrant community and am grateful for my role in helping families achieve their dreams.
