PCRS Update: Jamie’s Poster

Hey friends! Just wanted to share a little update from the recent PCRS event where our team presented some exciting findings.

Exciting Findings on Time-Lapse Imaging

One poster that caught a lot of attention focused on how time-lapse imaging could boost implantation rates for both cleavage-stage and blastocyst transfers. This method allows us to assess embryos based on their development probability within the first 48 hours, which is pretty cool! Right now, we primarily rely on morphology—basically, how an embryo looks and its growth rate—to select the best candidates for transfer. Unfortunately, this subjective approach often leads to patients transferring multiple embryos, pushing twin pregnancy rates over 30% in the U.S.

The Need for Better Selection Techniques

To promote single embryo transfers (eSET), we need better, more objective selection techniques. Incorporating time-lapse imaging into our assessments showed promising results. For instance, good-quality Day 3 embryos had a significantly higher implantation rate of 55% compared to their fair or poor counterparts at just 42%. Interestingly, for embryos that were already good-quality blastocysts, the time-lapse didn’t change their implantation rates much. However, it did help distinguish between lower-quality blastocysts, indicating a 47% implantation rate for high-scoring ones versus just 27% for those evaluated on morphology alone.

Valuable Insights for Fertility Journeys

This research really emphasizes that time-lapse imaging gives us valuable insights into which embryos are likely to develop into blastocysts and successfully implant after transfer. Conclusion

In summary, time-lapse imaging can enhance embryo selection processes, potentially leading to better outcomes in IVF treatments. It’s all about finding the best ways to support our fertility journeys.
