PCRS Update: Dr. Thompson’s Presentation

Hey friends! So we wanted to share a little recap about one of the fascinating presentations from the recent PCRS conference.

Dr. Emily Thompson from our team tackled an important topic: the risks of multiple pregnancies following embryo transfers. As we know, multiple gestations can be a significant concern with fertility treatments. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has guidelines on the number of embryos to transfer based on various factors like age and embryo quality. However, even by adhering to these guidelines, the chance of multiple pregnancies remains quite high.

One key factor in this discussion is the embryo implantation rate. At our clinic, thanks to some cutting-edge lab technologies, we’re seeing implantation rates between 60% and 90% when transferring just one embryo! While that’s fantastic news, it also means we need to be careful about the risk of multiple gestations.

To address this issue, Dr. Thompson’s research employed a mathematical model to predict the risk of multiple pregnancies at different implantation rates. The findings suggest that to keep the likelihood of multiple gestations below 5%, it’s best to perform single embryo transfers whenever the implantation rate exceeds 20%.

To wrap it up, Dr. Thompson’s work sheds light on the importance of carefully managing embryo transfers to minimize risks while maximizing success rates.
