Hey friends! We recently had the opportunity to present some exciting research at the ESHRE Annual Meeting, and we just had to share it with you. Our team, featuring the talents of Dr. Mia Thompson and research assistant Jake Miller, showcased two posters that delved into the world of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS).
Research Highlights
One of our posters explored whether Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels can predict IVF outcomes for patients undergoing PGS. AMH is a protein that gives us insight into a woman’s egg supply. Analyzing data from 288 IVF/PGS cycles, we found a strong link between higher AMH levels and the production of more chromosomally normal embryos. This means that patients with elevated AMH not only had more viable embryos but also enjoyed higher live birth rates per cycle and lower pregnancy loss rates. Dr. Thompson noted, “While low AMH levels are often associated with poorer outcomes, identifying a chromosomally normal embryo can significantly enhance chances of success.”
In our second poster, we focused on the outcomes for patients choosing to undergo PGS, assessing 433 IVF/PGS cycles. As expected, the likelihood of generating euploid embryos decreased with age. For instance, a 35-year-old woman typically produces one normal embryo for every six eggs, whereas a woman aged 43-45 might need to retrieve up to 42 eggs to find just one normal embryo. Despite these challenges, if a cycle produced at least one euploid embryo for a frozen embryo transfer, the overall live birth rate soared to an impressive 72%.
About ESHRE
What’s ESHRE all about, you ask? Founded in 1985, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology is a key player in advancing reproductive medicine. They’re dedicated to promoting research and sharing knowledge, providing invaluable resources for specialists in the field. Their annual meetings, like the one we attended in Lisbon, are fantastic opportunities for collaboration and learning.
