A recent national survey by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association has shed light on a significant barrier to infertility treatment—financial challenges. Out of 425 respondents, a staggering number indicated that cost issues are the primary obstacle preventing them from pursuing treatment.
At our clinic, we believe that finances shouldn’t be a roadblock to starting a family. Dr. Sarah Mitchell, a co-founder, expressed, “Our mission is to dismantle the barriers that hinder our patients from accessing fertility care. By alleviating financial stress, we hope more individuals can seek the treatment they need and take steps towards family building.”
Financial Support Options for Fertility Care
When faced with the prospect of fertility treatment, many people wonder, “How am I going to pay for this?” The good news is that around 90% of our patients have coverage for their initial consultations, and 70% receive some insurance benefits for tests and treatments like intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Residents in Maryland particularly benefit from state-mandated IVF coverage.
For those without sufficient insurance, we offer several financial programs to help ease the burden. Our Shared Risk 100% Refund Program is a standout. It allows patients to pay a flat fee for up to six IVF or donor egg cycles, covering any subsequent frozen embryo transfers. If a patient doesn’t leave with a baby, they receive a full refund (some exclusions apply).
Other helpful programs include the Shared Help Discount Program, which offers income-based discounts on treatment, a Military Discount Program for active-duty personnel, and a Shared Donor Egg Program that can reduce the cost of donor egg treatments by up to 50% while maintaining chances of conception.
One patient shared their experience with the Shared Risk program, stating, “It was the lifeline we needed. After struggling financially at other clinics, this program gave us the peace of mind we were looking for. Finally, we are going to be parents!”
Navigating insurance and financial options can be overwhelming, which is why we assign financial counselors to each patient to assist in decision-making.
“Eliminating the hurdles preventing patients from receiving fertility treatment is crucial for us. Our financial programs are designed to meet this need, resulting in over 50,000 babies born through our services,” Dr. Mitchell added.
