We’re excited to introduce you to Dr. Emily Carter, a dedicated reproductive endocrinologist. Dr. Carter is currently seeing patients in Washington, D.C., and also performs procedures at our Rockville, MD, location. We recently had the chance to chat with her about her journey into medicine, her motivations, and a few of her personal interests.
What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine, particularly in reproductive endocrinology and infertility?
My inspiration came from my grandmother, who was a nurse. She always spoke passionately about her work and the lives she touched. I remember visiting her at the hospital and feeling the warmth and gratitude from her patients. When she passed away, I realized just how impactful a career in healthcare could be. Helping couples build their families feels like one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to society.
What draws you to international work?
I’ve always had a passion for exploring different cultures and understanding diverse perspectives. Working internationally allows me to serve women who are in desperate need of medical care. My experiences in places like Rwanda and Indonesia have broadened my understanding and enriched my medical practice—it’s incredible how much we can learn from each other.
Why did you choose to join our team?
I was drawn to this clinic because of its reputation for compassionate, patient-centered care. The commitment to ethical practices and evidence-based medicine was evident from my very first visit. I also appreciate the emphasis on clinical research, which aligns with my interest in advancing reproductive medicine. When I was offered a role as Co-director of Research, I knew this was the perfect place for me.
Who inspires you?
My children inspire me daily—they are so adventurous and fearless, always trying new things and living life to the fullest.
What’s on your bucket list?
I dream of hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, learning to play the guitar, and taking a culinary tour through Italy. I also hope to see my children grow and have families of their own.
What are your hobbies?
I love running, cycling, and practicing yoga. I also enjoy cooking and spending time outdoors with my family, especially hiking. Sometimes, you can find me dancing in my kitchen with my kids!
What’s on your playlist?
My music taste is quite eclectic! I enjoy everything from Fleetwood Mac to Billie Eilish, but I must admit my kids have me listening to a lot of Disney soundtracks these days.
