Emily Carter, a skilled physician assistant at our K-Street office in Washington, D.C., recently shared her journey and insights regarding infertility in her alma mater’s magazine. Her personal experiences with infertility have profoundly influenced her career path.

“When I began my role here, I was 13 weeks pregnant with my daughter. It was a mix of joy and nerves, especially considering the environment I was in. Many of my patients have faced multiple negative pregnancy tests, miscarriages, or unsuccessful treatment attempts. They often feel isolated, grappling with their biological clocks and the weight of their circumstances. Some are single women, same-sex couples, or individuals facing health challenges. The last thing they want is to meet a healthcare provider with a visible baby bump, which symbolizes what seems unattainable. However, I relate to their struggles on a deep level. I understand the emotional rollercoaster of fertility treatments firsthand.

Professionally, I am well-versed in the inner workings of a fertility practice, from the office dynamics to the embryology lab, and I work alongside an incredible team dedicated to helping patients realize their dreams of parenthood. My husband and I navigated unexpected hurdles in our family-building journey, but ultimately found success with IVF. This experience transformed my life and motivated my transition from neonatal care to specializing in infertility. I cherish being part of a collaborative healthcare team that offers tailored care to those facing fertility challenges.

In my daily routine, I conduct baseline ultrasounds, early OB ultrasounds, intrauterine inseminations (IUI), and mock embryo transfers, among other essential services. I prioritize counseling my patients and sharing my story to provide hope and encouragement. Thanks to advancements in modern medicine, many individuals can achieve their dreams of becoming parents.”

Emily is now expanding her services to include egg freezing consultations at the K-Street office. For those considering egg freezing for future family planning, she can assess ovarian reserve testing and discuss whether this option is suitable.
