Open Letter to My Husband on Father’s Day

Dear Tom,

On this Father’s Day, I find myself reflecting on the journey we’ve been on together. Infertility sometimes casts a shadow over our lives, especially when it seems like everyone around us is welcoming new life. I battle feelings of anger and confusion, and most of all, I feel a deep sadness that I haven’t been able to give you the title of ‘Dad’ yet. You’ve always been the one who dreamed of having a family, and it breaks my heart to see how wonderful you are with our friends’ kids. I have no doubt that you will be an amazing father, the kind who will be involved and fun—our child will be so lucky to have you.

You’ve always been my solid ground, but I know that on this day, it’s hard for you too. You may not show it in the same way, but I can sense the ache in your heart for the little one we don’t yet have. Every blood test, injection, and appointment is just one step toward making that dream a reality. I can endure it all because I know it brings us closer to your role as a father.

Words can hardly express my gratitude for your unwavering support during this tough time. Infertility feels like a constant gray cloud, and holidays focused on parenthood hit harder than normal. Yet, you manage to keep me afloat, inspiring me to keep pushing toward our goal of having a healthy baby. Your optimism is truly remarkable.

Thank you for being there to catch my tears, for holding my hand, and for always knowing when to pour that much-needed glass of wine after a disappointing test. I can’t imagine navigating this journey with anyone else. While infertility has tested my strength, it has also deepened our bond. Rather than tearing us apart, it has brought us closer together. You are my best friend, and I know that starting our family will be the most incredible adventure. I may not know when our baby will arrive, but I believe it will happen. You are destined to be a father, and you will be the very best one. Although we can feel sadness today, let’s also cherish the hope that next year, our little one could be here with us.
