Julia Thompson, our amazing Nurse-Midwife, is all about providing that personal touch in care. With a background in holistic and empathetic support, she’s here to guide you through your pregnancy, ensuring that you feel empowered during your birthing and postpartum journey. As a mom of two herself, she gets it! Julia is especially devoted to fostering mental and emotional health after birth.
With two decades of experience under her belt, Julia has worked with birthing families in many different settings. Before joining our Millie family, she was at a hospital-based midwifery practice in Sacramento, where she made strides in helping Spanish-speaking clients access midwifery care. In the Bay Area, she’s also been a labor and delivery nurse and a board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) at Kaiser Oakland and Alta Bates. Plus, her experience includes being a doula at a freestanding birth center and even teaching prenatal yoga!
Julia truly believes in the body’s natural ability to give birth. She loves combining evidence-based research with genuine connections to help her clients trust their bodies and enhance their emotional well-being throughout pregnancy and parenting. She’s also published some insightful work on birth practices across the globe as well as the infant microbiome.
Trained at UCSF, Julia holds her Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) degrees.
