About Millie
What is Millie?
Millie is a fresh approach to women’s health, providing comprehensive, collaborative, and culturally aware care. From maternity to gynecology and support services, we’re here for you from preconception through early parenthood and beyond.
What services do you offer?
We provide maternity, gynecology, and a variety of classes and support options.
Where are you located?
We have two spots: one in Berkeley and another in South Bay.
Can I reach the clinic outside of office hours?
Yes! For after-hours concerns, you can reach our Berkeley location or the South Bay location with a quick call. If you have questions about appointments, just shoot us a message.
Billing & Insurance
Do you accept insurance? Which plans?
Absolutely! We currently accept PPO plans from several insurance providers, including Aetna and Cigna. In Berkeley, we work with HMO plans via Altais, and in South Bay, we accept SCCIPA HMO plans. If you’re unsure about your coverage, we’re happy to help look it up!
What will I pay for my maternity care?
Your clinical appointments, tests, and delivery experience at affiliated hospitals will be billed to your insurance. Plus, we offer in-network lactation services, and the Millie app is completely free! Just remember, some educational classes may not be covered by insurance.
Can I use my HSA or FSA for support services?
Yes, you can often use your HSA/FSA for those services, and we can provide a superbill for reimbursement.
Need payment flexibility?
We aim to ensure everyone can access our services. If you need to discuss payment options, reach out to us!
Maternity
Is my pregnancy suitable for Millie?
Most pregnancies are low-risk, making Millie a great fit for many. While we currently don’t accept high-risk pregnancies, we can refer you elsewhere if needed.
How do I start maternity care at Millie?
You can kick things off with a virtual consult right after you find out you’re pregnant. By 8-10 weeks, you’ll come in for your first ultrasound and continue with both in-person and virtual appointments throughout your pregnancy. Interested in transferring your care? We accept transfers up to 30 weeks!
What’s the difference between a midwife and an OB?
At Millie, we employ Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) who specialize in low-to-moderate risk pregnancies. In contrast, OB GYNs are medical doctors who handle more complex cases. Both play important roles, and our collaborative care model ensures that you receive the best support depending on your needs.
What does collaborative care look like?
You’ll start with a CNM who will guide you through your pregnancy. If your needs change, we can connect you with an OB GYN as necessary to provide seamless care.
Will I have a doula?
You’ll be paired with a Millie Guide, a practicing doula who will support you throughout your pregnancy journey. They can also help you find a birthing doula if you desire additional support during labor.
Where will I deliver?
All births are at either Alta Bates Hospital or Good Samaritan Hospital, where you’ll be surrounded by your Millie care team.
Gynecology
How often should I have a gynecological exam?
It’s recommended to have an annual wellness exam. If you’ve recently given birth, we suggest coming back for your annual after your baby turns one.
Do I need to be a maternity patient to receive gynecology care?
Nope! Many folks start with preconception counseling or annual exams before diving into maternity care.
What gynecology services does Millie offer?
We provide annual exams, preconception counseling, fertility assessments, IUD placements, infection screenings, and more.
Classes & Other Support
Do I need to be a Millie patient to take classes or use support services?
Not at all! Our classes and support services are available to everyone. Just keep in mind that mental health support is only offered in California.
How can I learn more about a session?
When booking, you’ll find detailed descriptions of each session. If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to us!
