Hey there! Let’s walk through how to use the OVUM Early Detection Pregnancy Test together. First things first, always check the expiration date on your test before using it, and make sure to follow these instructions closely.
Accuracy: Over 99% accurate on the first day of your expected period and you can test up to 5 days earlier!
Self-Testing at Home: This test is designed for at-home use.
About the OVUM® Pregnancy Test
The OVUM test detects a hormone known as human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), which appears in the early stages of pregnancy. Once an embryo attaches to the uterine wall, it begins producing hCG, which can be found in urine. If the test detects hCG, it will show a positive result. If you’re eager to test early, you can start 5 days before your expected period. For the best accuracy (over 99%), aim to test as close to your expected period as possible. Check out our section on “What Day Should I Test?” for more details.
Before You Test
To get the most accurate results, be sure to read these instructions thoroughly before testing. We recommend testing first thing in the morning when your urine is most concentrated. This is particularly important if you’re testing before your expected period! If you decide to test later in the day, just make sure you haven’t consumed too much liquid in the hours leading up to the test.
Taking the Test
- Unwrap one OVUM® test and remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip.
- Sit comfortably on the toilet and hold the test in place using the thumb grip. Point the absorbent tip downwards. The initial part of your urine stream will provide the strongest reading.
- You can either pee directly onto the absorbent tip for about 5 seconds (avoiding the result window) or collect urine in a clean, dry container and dip the test for at least 5 seconds.
- After testing, replace the cap while keeping the absorbent tip pointing downwards. Lay the test on a flat surface facing up. Wait for 3-5 minutes before checking the result.
- After using the test, place it along with the individual foil sleeve in the prepaid envelope included in the box. Once you’ve used all four tests, pop it in any UK postbox to send it off to our recycling partner.
Reading Your Results
The test window may show two lines:
- Control Line: Confirms the test has worked.
- Test Line: Indicates a positive result.
- Positive: If you see two lines, no matter how faint one may be, that’s a positive result!
- Negative: If only the control line appears, the test is negative, which means you’re either not pregnant or it’s too early to tell.
- Invalid: If there’s no colored line in the control area, the result is invalid. This may be due to insufficient saturation of the absorbent tip or a faulty/expired test. In this case, try again by dipping the absorbent tip directly into urine.
Common Questions
- How accurate is the test?
The OVUM® Early Detection Pregnancy Test is the most sensitive available, detecting hCG with over 99% accuracy. It’s 97% accurate three days before your expected period and 77% accurate five days before. - When to check results?
Review your results between 3 and 5 minutes after testing. Results read after 5 minutes may not be accurate, so if in doubt, retest. - What if one line is darker?
As long as you see two lines, you have a positive result! If the test line is faint, it might be too early or your urine is diluted. Try again in a few days, ideally in the morning when your urine is most concentrated.
Factors That May Affect Results
- Waiting too long to read your result can lead to inaccuracies.
- Recent hormonal contraception or fertility treatments may cause irregular periods, leading to premature testing.
- A recent miscarriage or chemical pregnancy could still yield a positive result.
