Hey friends! So, let me share an incredible journey my partner, Jake, and I went through while trying to conceive (TTC). It’s been about three years, and we finally got the news we were hoping for—twins!
Last year, we decided to visit a fertility clinic and were recommended to try intrauterine insemination (IUI). I learned I had a fibroid, but it wasn’t considered a big deal. Jake, on the other hand, faced some challenges with low sperm count and motility. I was a bit hesitant about the whole IUI process, especially with Covid restrictions complicating sperm collection at the clinic. Instead, we opted for timed intercourse with ultrasound monitoring, an Ovidrel shot, and an at-home insemination kit, of course!
The month after our first attempt was rough. I experienced the worst menstrual cramps ever! I’ve dealt with painful periods for years, but this was next level. After a couple of sleepless nights, I saw a pelvic pain specialist, only to discover that I had not one, but three fibroids, with one being a sizeable intramural fibroid that was distorting my uterus.
After surgery to remove the fibroids, we were told to wait until February to try again. Jake stockpiled the at-home insemination kits from a nearby store, and we were eager to get started. Unfortunately, I didn’t have an LH surge at the beginning of the cycle, which was disheartening. But just when I thought it was over, the next cycle brought that surge!
Jake was super focused on timing everything perfectly this time. We both followed the instructions to a tee—legs on pillows and all that good stuff. When day 23 arrived with no signs of my period, my heart raced. And guess what? A big fat positive pregnancy test! We couldn’t believe it. Our first prenatal appointment revealed not just one, but two little miracles! The ultrasound showed a two-day difference in their sizes, and Jake joked that it was all thanks to the timing we got right.
We were initially planning to return to the fertility clinic if my period had shown up, but thankfully that wasn’t necessary. Huge thanks to the team behind the at-home insemination kit for creating a product that made us feel comfortable and excited to use, and for all the inspiring success stories shared within the community.

In summary, after a challenging three years of trying to conceive, Jake and I are over the moon to be expecting twins! We’re grateful for every step of this journey and encourage anyone else facing similar struggles to keep pushing forward.
