A Previous Battle with Cancer Couldn’t Stop This Couple

Hey friends! I just wanted to share a beautiful journey that my partner and I have been on. We’ve been together for six amazing years, and for the last three of those, we’ve been trying to start our family. Back in March 2021, we decided to have my fiancé, Jake, tested. He had fought cancer when he was just 13 years old, and we were devastated to learn that he is sterile, meaning he can’t have biological children.

Faced with this heartbreaking news, we started exploring our options. Adoption was a possibility, but the costs ranged from $2,000 to $45,000—definitely not in our budget as we’re planning a wedding soon. Then, Jake found an incredible resource online. His best friend even offered to donate, which opened up new possibilities for us. We decided to give it a shot and got the kit we needed. Just two cycles later, and after timing my ovulation, we found out that we’re officially expecting our little miracle! As of June 5th, we’re 8 weeks pregnant and couldn’t be more excited!

We never thought this would be possible given my endometriosis and Jake’s past with cancer. But here we are, so thankful for the support and resources that helped us along the way. If you’re on a similar journey, don’t lose hope! There’s a world of support out there. Plus, if you’re looking for some creative ways to remember this special time, check out this other blog post on creating a DIY keepsake book here.

For anyone interested in learning more about home insemination, Make A Mom offers a great guide on at-home kits that can be really helpful. Also, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is an excellent resource for anyone looking to understand more about pregnancy and home insemination.

In summary, even though we faced some tough obstacles, our dreams of becoming parents are finally coming true. Stay hopeful, and remember that every journey is unique!
