Our story kicked off seven years ago when we discovered we were not just co-workers at the renowned Abbey Food & Bar in West Hollywood, but also neighbors in Downtown Los Angeles. After just three months of knowing each other, we became roommates, sharing car rides to work and bonding over our shared experiences as LGBTQ individuals, and our life goals.
Three years into our friendship, while airing our personal grievances at work one day, we realized that our dream of becoming parents seemed like a solo journey for each of us. But then a co-worker proposed an idea: why not raise a child together, given how well we connected? A 30-minute conversation later, we shook on it, and our co-parenting journey began!
We explored various conception options, considering our friendship dynamics, our identities as a gay man and a lesbian, our spirituality, finances, health, and our timeline. After a fertility specialist confirmed our ability to conceive, we stumbled upon some great resources that led us to explore options like artificial insemination kits. One of the best recommendations came from a friend who shared about the benefits of at-home insemination.
After only a week of trying to conceive, we got the thrilling news—we were pregnant! Fast forward to today, and we’re the proud parents of a joyful little boy who fills our lives with love and laughter. We are beyond grateful for the support and resources that helped us realize our parenting dreams. We’re eagerly looking forward to using these insights again when we’re ready for baby number two!
