I’m thrilled to share my story, which has been quite the adventure! While I know we’re just at the beginning, I believe my experiences might resonate with others facing similar struggles.
My journey began over two decades ago during my teenage years. Like many young girls, I was a bit rebellious. I fell in love with my high school sweetheart at just 14. Things escalated quickly, and before we knew it, I was pregnant. It was a terrifying time for both of us. Thankfully, my mom was supportive, having had my brother at 14 herself. Tragically, we lost the baby, which hit me hard. I started taking birth control and remained on it for years, gaining weight and experiencing no menstrual cycles—definitely not healthy.
Eventually, I moved on from that relationship and met my first husband. We weren’t using any protection, but after a few years of trying, it became clear something was amiss. Tests revealed I had PCOS, and he had fertility issues too. The chances of conceiving naturally were slim, and the cost of treatments loomed over me, leaving me feeling consumed with the desire for a child. Watching friends announce their pregnancies was heartbreaking, often leaving me in tears. This struggle eventually took a toll on our marriage, leading to divorce.
Not long after, I met my soulmate, my best friend. We tied the knot two years ago, but the thought of getting pregnant seemed like a distant dream. Then, during a doctor’s visit, I received shocking news—I was pregnant! The excitement was mixed with fear, but sadly, I suffered another miscarriage. I felt completely defeated. It became clear that if I wanted to have a baby with my husband, we had to think outside the box.
That’s when my incredible cousin stepped in. She’s like a sister to me and offered to carry a baby for us. Initially, I wasn’t sure how I felt about not being the biological mother, but as we discussed it, I realized she was the person I trusted most with our future child.
We sat down together—my cousin, her husband, my husband, and I—to talk through every detail. We covered everything from responsibilities to how we’d tell the kids. At that point, I knew this was the right choice for us.
Enter our at-home insemination kit. I did my research and found a reliable kit that would help us conceive. I stocked up on ovulation tests and waited for the right moment. When I finally got a positive result, we were ready to try.
My husband collected his sample, keeping it warm while my cousin rushed over. I carefully drew up the sample into the syringe and she inserted it, following some handy tips to avoid air bubbles. After laying down for 30 minutes, we repeated the process for the next couple of nights and then it was time to wait.
Fast forward to Saturday morning—we’re pregnant!!
This journey has been filled with perseverance, trust, and an abundance of love. I want to thank everyone involved in this process for making our dreams a reality.
