Tedious Tasks We’ve Left Behind, Thanks to Modern Technology

Let’s be honest: managing screen time for our kids (and ourselves) can be quite the challenge. However, when it comes to the myriad of ways technology streamlines my daily routine? I simply can’t resist its charms:

  1. Text Messaging
I can’t imagine how families with multiple kids ever managed to connect at crowded amusement parks without texting. And when it comes to hiring babysitters, the frantic phone tag is a thing of the past. I’d much rather send a quick text than risk forgetting what time they’re supposed to arrive. Plus, let’s face it, most teenage babysitters are not keen on lengthy conversations! Group texts might annoy some, but isn’t it better than calling every friend to organize an unexpected happy hour? Definitely!
  2. Online Bill Payments
Gone are the days of stamps, envelopes, and spending an hour sorting through mail. I love receiving emails with confirmations that my bills have been paid. If only my computer could also handle the endless forms for my children’s activities and medical history!
  3. Library Holds and Renewals
Can you believe the convenience? I can request books online, and the library notifies me when they’re ready for pickup. With a family that often has around 50 books checked out, receiving renewal reminders via email is a game changer. No more lugging heavy stacks back to the library! Some libraries even have drive-up windows now — how genius is that?
  4. Drive-Thru Pharmacies
Let’s take a moment to appreciate drive-thrus! After a pediatric visit with a sick child, there’s no need to wait inside the pharmacy for a prescription anymore. The doctor can call it in, and we just swing by to pick it up — what a relief! Now, if only we could get drive-thru grocery stores. Who wouldn’t want to grab a gallon of milk without dragging kids through the aisles?
  5. ATM Access
I found a bank that offers passbook accounts for my kids, reminiscent of my own childhood. However, the paperwork and long lines can be tiresome. Thankfully, ATMs make banking a breeze — especially drive-thru ones!
  6. GPS Navigation
No more fumbling with bulky paper maps or squinting at printed directions! GPS has revolutionized navigation, although it can be frustrating when the signal drops in remote areas. Still, it’s a far cry from the old days of getting lost!
  7. Amazon
I have to admit, I have a soft spot for Amazon. While I love supporting local businesses, sometimes life just gets too hectic. Amazon Prime is my trusty friend for everything from birthday gifts to essentials like socks and cat food.

So, what am I doing with all the time I’ve saved? Engaging in fulfilling activities, of course! Well, and maybe a little scrolling through social media. Just a little.
