Everywhere I look, it seems the spotlight shines on either Baby Boomers or Millennials. One generation is gearing up to leave the workforce, while another is just stepping in. Historically, different generations have navigated their coexistence, and the same holds true for these two distinct groups.
But what about those of us in our 40s? Generation X, often overlooked due to our smaller numbers, might seem like a forgotten demographic, yet I couldn’t disagree more.

Younger generations often claim, “That was acceptable then, but we know better now.” But do we truly? Our greatest advantage lies in our ability to understand both perspectives and adapt accordingly. We are the adhesive keeping everything together. In the workplace, we know Boomers prefer concise emails without embellishments, while Millennials are more flexible with their communication styles.
At home, I find myself supporting my sister-in-law through the challenges of modern parenting. Her approach frequently relies on the newest trends, which can lead to anxiety when kids don’t meet the latest milestones.
Despite our smaller size, Gen X is incredibly resilient and adaptable. We’ve witnessed and embraced change, from writing essays by hand to effortlessly taking online classes from the comfort of our couches. We are the generation that turned challenges into triumphs, paving the way for Millennials in the workplace, teaching them about appropriate attire, and advocating for relaxed dress codes.
Though we may be fewer in number, Generation X is still here, making our mark right in the center of it all.
