11 Reasons I’m Grateful This Thanksgiving

Every year, our family celebrates Thanksgiving at our home. One cherished tradition is to gather together before the feast and share what we’re thankful for. Amid the delicious aromas and the excitement of the upcoming meal, it’s common for many to express gratitude for food. While the usual favorites like good health, family, and a comfortable home are always mentioned, here are 11 unique things I’m genuinely grateful for this year:

  1. I’m thankful for kids who sleep in until at least 8 am. Even better are those who, upon waking, head straight to the family room, turn on the Thanksgiving parade, pour themselves some chocolate milk, and don’t even think about looking for me until after 9 am. Truly a blessing!

  2. I’m grateful that our family doesn’t participate in Turkey Trots or 5K runs on Thanksgiving. I admire those who choose to be active on a day meant for indulgence, but I opted to stay on the couch instead of signing up last year.

  3. I appreciate a good bottle of wine. The larger, the better!

  4. I’m thankful for relatives who engage our kids in games like football, Wii, or Uno while I tackle the monumental task of preparing a feast. They could be teaching my kids to build rockets for all I care, as long as they keep them occupied while I wrestle with a hefty turkey.

  5. I feel grateful when my children manage to get through the day without bickering. (A rare win!)

  6. Similarly, I appreciate a peaceful holiday without any adult squabbles. (Double win!)

  7. I am thankful for days when I don’t have to wear a bathing suit, especially when indulging in large meals. Let’s be honest, the Fourth of July can’t compare!

  8. Have I mentioned the wine yet?

  9. I’m thankful for those amazing people who swoop in after the meal to clear the tables and tackle the cleanup like a well-oiled machine. When they’ve washed and put away all the dirty dishes, I feel like celebrating their efficiency with a dance!

  10. I’m grateful that we only host Thanksgiving and not any other holidays. One is plenty!

  11. And of course, I’m thankful for leftovers. They’re the gift that keeps on giving!
