7 Trends I Promise I Never Embraced in the ’90s

The ’90s were an eccentric era for fashion, to say the least. My wardrobe primarily consisted of a collection of vintage slip dresses, chunky Doc Martens, and retro tees from the ’70s. However, there are definitely some fashion items I can unequivocally claim I never wore. Can you relate?

  1. Bright Neon Sweatshirts: These remnants of ’80s trends crept into the ’90s like an unwelcome guest, and I certainly wasn’t a fan.
  2. Ripped Overalls: Alright, I might have slipped into a pair once, but I assure you, it was under the influence of too many drinks.
  3. Plaid Miniskirts with Knee-High Socks: Clueless was iconic, but this look was too reminiscent of a “naughty schoolgirl” vibe for my taste, especially since I proudly identified as a rebellious Jewish gal.
  4. Flannel Shirts: Sure, I had a few in my closet while I blasted Nevermind on repeat, but I never had the courage to wear them outside. I guess I just didn’t see myself as a lumberjack.
  5. Nylon Tracksuits: I made some questionable fashion choices during this decade, particularly in NYC clubs, but I drew the line at these abominations.
  6. Bustier with an Oversized Blazer: I might have dodged this trend mainly because my figure was not suited for it. But honestly, it wasn’t a bad look.
  7. Chokers: Okay, I confess—I paired chokers with my slip dresses, particularly the velvet ones. I wouldn’t be shocked if I still have a few tucked away in my jewelry box, awaiting their return.

Additionally, I have to admit: scrunchies were an obsession I couldn’t resist.

In summary, while the ’90s were filled with unique fashion choices, there are certain styles I can confidently say I avoided. Whether it’s the loud neon colors or questionable fabric choices, these trends simply weren’t for me.
